Connection I think we all yearn for meaningful con Connection
I think we all yearn for meaningful connections. At least I do. Even now, after we’ve had a bit of time coming out of isolation, it is really dawning on me how much things have changed. All of us spending countless days (years really!) communicating through a keyboard instead of face to face. I used to pride myself on being a good conversationalist. I could enjoy a great chat with just about anyone. Now, when I’m front and center with someone new I seem to struggle with words, uncomfortable with what to say next. It’s such an odd feeling for me. I can only attribute it to spending so much time without having real, physical connections to people who weren’t in my immediate quarantine circle. That and working from home. So many of us transitioned to hame and have not gone back to an office environment. Think about it, the office is, of course, a place of work, but during a normal work week the average person would spend more time with work colleaguues than their own family. Time that was not only dedicated to business but close, personal exchange. Now so many of us have transitioned to working remote, never going back to that traditional office. Is the lack of personal interaction…meaningful, face to face human connection…having even greater repercussions that we ever imagined? What do you think? The irony of posing this question on social media is not lost on me. Just something I’m pondering today.

A Different World I’m always astonished by how q A Different World
I’m always astonished by how quickly a scene changes with the shifting light. Just minutes before, this scene was a soft, serene palate of blues and mauves as if quiet could be seen, not just heard. Then, as the sun rose to kiss the horizon, the sky exploded in bright, bold pinks and oranges…invigorating, energizing and almost unfathomable. This couldn’t be real, but it was, and I was the fortunate one to be there alone in the explosive stillness to witness it and ultimately share it with you.

Waves of Winter I am NOT a morning person, which Waves of Winter

I am NOT a morning person, which is incredibly ironic considering my chosen career path necessitating me up and out of my warm, cozy bed well before the crack of dawn, hurling my body and soul into the frigid, predawn darkness that lies beyond my door. It is literally torture. A torture that, mercifully, quickly subsides when nature gifts me with a soul celebrating scene such as the one I stumbled across last week, a result of the relentless atmospheric river pummeling us on the West Coast.
Well yes. Yes it is. Well yes. Yes it is.

I have an irrational fear of bridges. Known as gep I have an irrational fear of bridges. Known as gephyrophobia (pronounced jeff-i-ro-fo-bia), people (ME 🙋🏻‍♀️) with an intense fear of driving over a bridge -- or for some, the mere thought or anticipation of it -- brings on a panic attack. Their hearts race and palms sweat, and they may also have trouble breathing and feel light-headed. I get it all! What’s funny is, I know it’s irrational but the anxiety that washes over me is almost debilitating. I have to mentally talk myself across and once I get to the other side the relief is palpable. Oddly enough, I don’t really have a fear of heights. I can zip line over a ravine or waterfall to my heart’s content. Stand on the edge of a cliff to shoot a picture…no problemo. But the prospect of crossing one of these low country bridges, which are so elevated in the center that when you are going up you can’t see the down 😖, breaks me out in a cold sweat. Do you have an irrational fear? Share in the comments and let’s commiserate. 😉
